Beep! Beep! Beep! That noise. She hated that noise. Every morning, every daily routing, that irritating noise woke her from peace at 7 A.M. She had to be up by then, or else she was screwed over. Her dad, er, step-dad would hit her or scream until she awoke.
The young, 19 year old sat up. Her long midnight black, if not blacker, hair dropped down in front of her face as if she was Samara from The Ring. Stupid movie. Her pale blue eyes scanned the area. "Bryce." she mumbled, and gently nudged a small heap on her pull-out mattress by the bed to get up. Her younger brother, a mirror image of her with darker blue eyes, whimpered, then woke. He looked at her sleepily. His hair was long, but much shorter than Alexis's, whose went down almost to her knees. Mid thigh to be more accurate.
"Dad is sleepin'?" he asked. He was almost 10. His skin, like hers, was porclein white. She nodded.
"Unless he wasn't drinkin' for whatever reasons last night." She stood and changed into some day clothes and tossed her brother some of her own more boyish hand-me-downs to wear. They both dressed. Alexis grabbed her go-backpack which had all her personal small belongings and headed to the kitchen. She microwaved a Hot Pocket for Bryce, and grabbed a nutrition bar for herself.
They left and ate at the same time. They were going to the beach. "What's it feel like to be 9 years and 363 days old?" Alexis asked, smiling brightly. Bryce mearly shrugged as they continued on to the beach. The smell of salt and sound of whooshing waves could be heard everywhere on the waterside. That's what made it nice to live there, despite their family and home. It was a cloudy day, the sky already gray and gloomy. And yet, it was a happy day. Only warm breezes passed through as they neared the beach.
Once at the beach, Alexis went to her job and Bryce went to play. She'd hooked it up so that her best friend, Megan Wisely, would watch her with her other best friend, Lilly Valentine, could keep an eye on him with their siblings. She watched them walk off and sighed. She looked at her almost bland work outfit. It was just a white t-shirt that had the name of the small cafe-type place she worked at.
Was it a cafe? She wondered that. There was a square all around her, like a bar, and people ate at the counter. Was this part the cafe? She shrugged. No alcohol here though. Not until noon, when she got off work.
Alexis sighed. It was still early. No customers. She watched the waves lap against the sand. It made her had to pee, but she wasn't allowed to until she was off. Bastard manager. SHe looked up at the sky, and willed the day to pass quickly.
