'Yet another new town full of the tainted' I thought to myself. I walked the streets alone, watching others enjoying their friday night. They were there for pleasure while I was there for work. I was a hunter, and I did what the title suggested. I hunted the things that haunted the darkest corners and preyed on the weak and innocent. Things that most thought were only myths. I was good at what I did. I should be from my heritage. The Salvator clan was the most famous for hundreds of years. Ever since my great, great, great, grandmother fell in love with a pure vampire. Well one thing led to another and now vampire blood now runs through my ancestors and me. The extra strength and speed my clan allows us to be more evenily matched with the one'swe hunted. The healing was also very useful, especially with all the night time bralls I get into. My attention turned to a couple coming out of the movie theatre close by. A flash of red eyes caught my attention. The boy with the eyes I knew so well wrapped his arm possively around the waist of the giggling girl accompanying him. I followed them, sensing what would come.

I walked the streets of the city, hyper-sensitive the smells and sights and sounds and... everything. I still wasn't used to all the people. It disgusted me that at night they acted as though they owned the world. Women sold their bodies to whatever man had enough money for them. Vampires, disguised as young men and women, prowled, looking for their next meal victim. Oh look. There was one now. But the odd thing about that encounter was that the human girl and the vampire were being followed by a strange woman. They say curiousity killed the cat, but I'm no cat. I followed, unprepared for what could possibly happen next.

I stalked them into the parking garage, making sure to keep my distance so I wouldn't so I wouldn't be spotted. My features were easy to identify if he had ever meet or heard about someone in my clan. My family all had the same glossy, black hair and icy grey eyes. People could seperate me from the others by my long hair, which reached my mid-back. Most hunters kept their hair short so it was less of a distraction. I couldn't bare to cut it because my father had always loved it so much when he was alive. "Like a waterfall of blak silk" he would say.
Shaking my head to forget my thoughts. I focused back to my prey. An easy way to identify who the Tainted were was by their eye color. The Tainted had bright, red eyes because of their over consumnation of blood. Another way was by a strong smell of a sickly-sweet sweat that came off of them.
Getting closer, my senses were attacked my that all to familiar stench. No one else was close by, leaving my prey and his own prey alone in a dark space hidden between cars.
I heard a swift, pained gasp, and then my instrincts took control. I ran lightening fast towards their location, oulling a daggar made made out of steel-hard wood that was as sharp as glass. Rounding around the cars. I spotted the Tainted holding his victim in his arms, mouth to her neck.
He didn't hear as I came up behind him. No emotion escaped me as I plunged the daggar into his undead heart. He howled in pain and rage before to flames. "So he was a vampire. Good to know." I said to myself as I wiped the daggar against my jeans before putting it into its' holder that was hidden by my jeans and strapped on my calf.
I checked on the girl. There was a hole in her neck deep enough to see her tissue and sinews. I dig into my backpack, pulling out a bottle of ambrose. Ambrose could heal any injury, but it only worked if the injury came from anything supernatural. 'How I wish it could work on me.' I thought as I saw the victims' flesh knit itself back together and heal instantly.
I left her there, knowing she would wake up perfectly fine in a few moments.

As I watched, hopefully unseen, I saw the scene unfold. The poor, foolish girl that flirted with the vampire was paying with her life...until the stranger stabbed the vampire. My dragon heart was urging me to run. A Hunter! They were responsible for the massacre of my kind. Granted most of my family was evil, but they killed nearly everyone. I knew that I couldn't shift here. I would be caught and killed. Fear for my life kept me frozen as the hunter turned.

The sun was just rising as I unlocked the door to the old Victorian house just barely on the outskirts of town. The witch family I was housing with received their magic from the plants and nature, so vines and flowers grew everywhere, inside and out.
The mother was already awake, working in the kitchen. I had to be careful about what I ate and drank here. Something that easily resembled kool aid could actually be a potion to turn my hair green. I briefly said hello. The mother was friendly and gave off a warm scent. She was so different from my real mother, a strong, icy, badass hunter who barely acknowledged the existence of her own children. The only reason she gave birth in the first place was to create more troops for the army against evil.
I made it to the guest room. I looked in the mirror and noticed dried blood on my cheek. I could only imagine where it came from. I wiped it off, unaffected from its’ presence. I fell into my bed with a sigh. This was a much better housing then what I usually got. I fell asleep on-top of the sheets fully clothed.

She hadn't seen me. I was so relieved. For one more day my life was my own. I returned to the place I called home, like the dragons of old, a cave on the outskirts of town. But my senses were still on high alert. I just happened to live near the Hunter.

I woke up alert, like always, and examined my surroundings. ‘No threat’ I thought, checking the windows and doors. I dressed in my regular attire, jeans and a zip up hoodie. It easily hid all my weapons as well as the scars I collected over the years.
I went downstairs to find a dinner plate waiting for me. I felt touched that this family had taken such good care of me when they weren’t required too. I ate quietly, watching the news for anything suspicious. After that, I called the agency and reported my kills from last night, three vampires, five werewolves, and one very nasty fairy. I also told them what supplies I was running low of so that they could send me some more.
Once I was packed and ready, I went to the garage. My beautiful, black motorcycle was waiting for me. I didn’t know much about cars and vehicles, but I did know one thing. It was Hell-a-fast. I jumped on and soared down the streets back to the heart of the city.

I was tired from my all-night vigil. I mean, I can’t be expected to not fear that I’ll be killed in my sleep by a Hunter. I stayed in my dragon form, the least vulnerable form as compared to my human one. My small horde I’d hidden at the back of the cave. I haven’t added anything to it yet. To do so would not be keeping with the Ancient Dragon Law. To add anything to a horde, the objects must be received by tribute, conquest or ransom. As young as I am, such actions are far in the future for me. Ancient Dragon Law probably caused the Hunters to attack my clan. There is no legal way in American laws to obtain treasure and no loophole in Dragon Law to permit shortcuts on gaining treasure. Caught between a rock and a hard place, my ancestors chose the lesser of two evils, breaking American laws. Whether by pyramid schemes, outright robbery, hold-ups, kidnapping or blackmail, my family amassed its enormous fortune. Enter the Hunters. Dragon by dragon, my ancestors passed into obscurity through death. Then I burst from my egg with a singularly unique ability. I could appear human. For only 17 years, I wandered the Earth before chancing upon my first Hunter. Egg memories told me of the events leading up to my conception and abandonment. I was alone in world, not knowing who my parents were (Egg memories failed to remember THAT) or whether or not I was the last of my kind. But for the time being, I was safe, un-pestered and still alive. But the odd, and often deadly, curiosity seized me again. I had to follow that Hunter. I had to know if she was a threat to me, if she even knew I existed. Shifting back to my human form so as not to draw immediate and unwanted attention, I looked at the wristwatch on my human wrist. I was well past 8 o’clock. Good thing I didn’t have school today. Without my parents, or any other dragons for that matter, to teach me, human school was the only place where I could learn more than surviving a hostile street. And school didn’t involve bad experiences…usually.

Again, I was on watcher duty. I was lucky enough that things didn't seem so exciting tonight. I hadn't spotted even one Tainted. I sat on a brick bench, drinking an energy drink to keep me alert. I was getting bored, as well as antsy. I couldn't sit still. I probably shouldn't of had that energy drink because it made my body vibrate like a cell phone. I got up and walked around, eyes keen like a cat's catching everything I saw.

Oh shoot! I could feel the Hunter hyped up on sugar. She was hyper alert and here I was, such an idiot, sitting not 20 feet away.

My eyes focused on a boy not that far away from me. His aura was pure and clean, though powerful. He seemed to be intentionally avoiding my eyes. He seemed to know what I was. It saddened me that he seemed so scared of me, but as my mother once told me "Fear is our advantage over them. Their fear will cause them to make foolish mistakes, which we then take advantage of." I walked past him, silently, making sure to not appearingly be gazing at him. It was confusing to not be able to place his race. I was especially skilled at doing so but this one had stumped me.

She looked right at me. I could only look away. When I looked back, she looked more confused than angry and vengeful. I dared to walk over to her. "Hi," I said stupidly.

My eyes popped open in suprise. "I thought you were scared of me." I said, looking him up and down. I still couldn't decide what race he was from. "You know what I am, don't you? I asked, putting my hands in my pocket and looking down, continueing to walk through the crowd, avoiding them easily.

I tilt my head back and laugh. I wipe a tear from my eyes for laughing so hard. "I knew most think that way, but your the only one who would admit it." I said, smiling. "Don't worry. I only hunt the Tainted. I'm ok with the Pure, so you're safe."
