Anya woke to her mutt, Mack, nosing her cheek. With a grunt, she sat up and rubbed at an ache in her shoulder. Her mussy brown hair was in disarray, and her eyes were still groggy. "Okay, you're hungry." Ever since the people in town had turned into zombies and rampaged through town, eating and biting whoever got in their way, Anya had lost all but her sister and dog. Her friends, her parents, her brothers. She'd stolen away with Bella, her sister, and taken them to the one place she knew she could barricade and wait this out at - the local Outdoors store. It used to be owned by a nice, older man named Jeff. When Anya had arrived, face streaked with tears and covered in others' blood, no one had been in sight. Now Anya was much more business-like, as she wasn't one to panic for long. It'd only been a week, but Anya had utilized the store's already well-done security and knocked it up so that the windows, if broken, had bars to stop people - or zombies - from entering. With a healthy supply of ammo, and camping food, Anya had done fine. It probably helped that Jeff and his wife, Liddy, had lived above the store and Anya could still shower. She didn't like smelling bad, and being clean helped her keep her sanity. "Anya?" Anya turned to look at the door to Jeff and his wife's bedroom, which Anya slept in, to find her little sister standing in the entryway. Bella had blonde ringlets, similar to Anya's mother. But her eyes were as brown as Anya's, and much more innocent. Bella was the biggest factor for Anya's calm demeanor at this time. She couldn't go losing her sanity with a little eight year old to protect. "Hey, sweetie. Hungry?"
Anya made Bella breakfast - spam and eggs, unfortunately - before grabbing her bow and arrows and heading up to the roof with Mack. From the roof Anya could watch out for approaching "herds" (which she liked to call groups of zombies, much more dangerous than a single one) or vandalizing idiots.

Eli stalked down the street, his eyes shifting around here and their anxiously as he made his way deeper into the city. His mother and father had been infected and by the time he'd made it home they were zombies, he'd been forced to kill them and he'd ended up alone, bunkered down in his home, boarding up the windows and doors and sitting in there with the corpses of his mom and dad.
Finally he'd convinced himself to leave his shelter and go out into the chaos, what he'd found was horrible, blood and pieces of flesh everywhere. And of course the zombies, which he'd ended up taking an axe too, chopping off their heads and sometimes mutilating their bodies completely.
Now he was heading to the outdoor store, there would be some equiptment there that he could use to survive out in the wild while he travelled.
As he came within sight of the building he noticed a figure upon the roof and he paused, narrowing his hazel green eyes and frowning a little to himself. He didn't have time to stare for long though as a growl came from his right.
Eli turned sharply and swung his axe right down into the skull of a zombie and then yanked it out again, watching the body drop. He sucked in a deep breath and ran a hand through his messy black hair before taking another look around and continuing his way towards the store.

A low growl rose from Mack's throat, and Anya looked down the street to spot a figure coming towards the store. Narrowing her eyes, she knocked an arrow and drew her arm back, aiming at the figure's head. "They never learn, right boy?" She said with a slight grin, her fingers inching to release the arrow from it's quivering tension. But something, perhaps instinct, told her to stop. To wait. So she carefully let the bow relax, leaning forward slightly and peering at the black-headed person. Not staggering, or bloody. Carrying a weapon, on top of that. It wasn't a zombie. "Who the hell is stupid enough to go walking around? With an axe?" She sighed, watching the guy move closer and closer until she could finally make him out better. When she did realize who she was looking at, her eyes widened. "You've gotta be kidding! The damn world is ending, and I still can't get a break!" With a sigh she put her bow down, but she didn't go to welcome Eli with open arms. She didn't really hate him, but the idea of inviting him to come live here with her wasn't at the top of her list, per say. Instead she cross her arms over her chest and watched him come closer, smiling at the fact that he wouldn't be able to get in.

Once he got close enough to see her he scowled and leaned against his axe handle, looking up at her thoughtfully. "So you lived, huh? I guess I shouldn't be all to surprised, not with your background and all." Eli commented dryly and took glance around. He'd made it pretty far with just an axe, it was really the only weapon he 'could use', he'd tried to use a gun but his aim had been off, and the sound of the shot had just brought more zombies around.
"How about you let me in for a cup of tea?" He called up to her, giving Anya a crooked grin.

Anya leaned over the ledge slightly, peering down at him. "I'm all out of tea, actually. Perhaps you could find some yourself, maybe on the other side of town." She replied, her own grin growing. She could have been in the middle of a herd of zombies, but her ongoing rivalry with Eli always had a way of easing Anya into a sense of happiness. He was an annoying jerk most of the time, but she liked how he could dish out whatever he was served. Mack, always the most affectionate dog to anyone with a pulse, put his paws up on the ledge and woofed lightly at Eli, his tail wagging furiously and beating Anya's thigh. Anya glanced at the dog before returning her attention to Eli, "I'm surprised you've survived with just an axe. Where are you living now? Supermarket?"

He chuckled and shrugged his shoulders, "But i've already walked all the way here, just to see you, how could you turn away a visitor that's gone through all this trouble?" Eli looked around again slowly, his smile dropping and then returning. "The supermarket is pretty crowded, and you'd be surprised how well i've done with this axe." He winked and then became serious. "Come on, Anya, let me in, would you?"

Anya's grin ebbed slightly, and her eyes roved his body - as if he'd come here after being bitten. But she was cautious, and that made her check him before she sighed. "Alright, fine. Gimme a minute. Don't die while you're waiting." It was actually a serious suggestion, seeing as the world was crawling with zombies. She disappeared from view, grabbing her bow and arrow, and going to the door to the roof and leading Mack downstairs to the living area. She found Bella in her room - the only other bedroom in the small apartment-like loft, probably for guests or a son or daughter Anya didn't know about. "Hey, we've got a visitor. Someone I knew from school. Alright?" She waited for Bella to nod her agreement before heading down to the store-part of the building. Unlatching the locks took a solid thirty seconds, and a peek through the peep hole told Anya that, in fact, a horde of zombies hadn't popped up. When she opened the door, Mack charged into affection mode like a bat out of hell. The brown and white, scruffy-looking dog that stood up to Anya's hip immediately bombarded Eli with woofs and sniffs. Anya took this distraction to survey Eli, a slight frown flitting over her features. If he was alone now, that probably meant he didn't have any of his family anymore. At least she had Mack and Bella, but Anya didn't think Eli even had pets. She wasn't sure, because it wasn't like they knew a whole bunch about eachother's home lives. "Hey." She greeted, finally, raising a brow and propping the door open wider. "Come on in."

Eli watched as she disappeared from the roof top and after a few moments of waiting he started to worry that she actually wouldn't let him in. Would she really do that? Lock him out with the knowledge that he could potentially be torn to shreds or be turned into a zombie? His suspicions were cast away as soon as he heard the clicks at the door.
He shrugged his faded leather jacket off, leaving him in an off-white wife beater, there were blood splatters on it and on the legs of his blue jeans. When the door was open he sighed and looked at Anya, Bella, and Mack, his eyes roving over all three before he gave the dog a quick pet on the head.
"Hey." Eli greeted and slipped inside of the store, looking around quickly and grinning a bit. "Have you been here the entire time?" He questioned, his hazel eyes turning to lay on Anya.

Anya took a moment to close the door, lock everything again, before she answered him. She cast a glance at Bella, who took that as her cue to run upstairs. Once Anya was sure that her sister was out of earshot, Anya faced Eli again. "We tried to stay home," She hesitated, staring at him for a moment before looking away. "When I got home, I found them. Everyone was dead except dad, and I had to kill him. I didn't know Bella was alive until I heard Mack barking, and I ran outside to see Bella and him running towards the house from the woods." Anya sighed, leaning back against the door and throwing Eli a quick glance. "I cleared the bodies, but after a few days it just didn't feel safe - or like a home anymore. We've only been here a few days." Anya paused for a minute, her eyes glazing as she thought about the first few days of the whole ordeal. Finally she sighed, focusing on him again, "Come on, let's go upstairs. Are you thirsty?" Anya didn't wait for him to answer, but instead trudged up the stairs with Mack at her heels. Once upstairs, she crossed through the small sitting room and to the kitchen. She literally didn't have tea, but she did have coffee and juice. She made two cups of coffee, leaving one on the counter but picking hers up between her palms. "If you don't want the coffee, you can get juice out of the fridge." She waited a moment, and then asked the question that had been on the edge of her lips the entire time. "Where are you staying?"
