The night was moonless, and the stars that so usually blanketed the sky seemed to shy away, leaving only an endless world of shadows. Within the forest no animals stirred, the usual chirping of grasshoppers and frogs were lost; leaving only an eerie quite settling upon the trees.
Deep within the wood, beyond any sight of roads or civilization, walked a pale form; moving like the wind, leaving a trail of white to billow behind, the long trail of the robe catching leaves and dirt.
Movement stopped suddenly, and a pale face lifted, hood falling back to reveal brick red eyes and long dark red hair, spilling to the slight womans waist.
She studied everything around her a moment, before pulling forth a tiny blade from the folds of her ceremonial robe, and drawing it across her wrist.
There was a hiss of slight pain, followed by a slight moan of morbid facination. The woman quickly hid her knife back into a fold in her robe and dropped down to her knees, smearing her blood in the dirt below her.
She was aware suddenly of various things, one that all the insects of the earth were rushing away from her like she was a sickness, two that she may have cut a bit too deep becuase she was becomming lightheaded, and finally three, that the earth below her was beginning to tremble; to shake, as if something below was digging it's way towards the surface.
Do you need my help Came a whispered reply in her head, and the pale faced woman shook her red locks to no one in particular.
No, I have this. She was speaking to Lyokane, her only companion. She could sense that the wolf was waiting back at the cabin, and knew that she was hesitant about this whole situation. Everything will be fine, I'm just a bit light headed. She assured her before severing the connection between them.
In that second a decayed hand broke the surface of the earth, and she drew back quicky, comming to her feet and giving the being room as it climbed from the dirt to kneel at her feet.
It's glowing red gaze met her's, making a chill travel down her spine. Even though she was in control of the beast, she knew that it would turn against her at the first oportunity.
"Your order, Mistress?" It hissed out, the scent of decrepid death tickeling her nose.
"I desire information." She whispered, hoping that her weak voice did not betray her.
The demon watched her silently, exspectantly.
"Have you any word on the Order?"
It's eyes lit with understanding then. "They are within the city, seeking shelter at a place called 'The Inferno'. Presently they know nothing of your whearabouts."
The red headed woman nodded with a sigh of relief. Good. She had found them at last. Drawing straight she held out her hand, which was still dripping blood. "As payment for your help."
The demon's eyes grew wide and greedy then, and before she could blink his hand shot out and grasped her wrist tightly, pulling it to it's foul lips as it sucked deep and hard.
She tensed, clenching her teeth in disgust and hatred.
For a long time it feasted, and just when she thought she would faint from blood loss it drew back, it's lips twisted into a wicked grin. "Many thans, Mistress."
The red headed woman watched as it sank back into the earth. And then she did faint.
