Lilly clutched her bag of groceries to her chest, not wanting to get mugged again that week. Her naturally tan skin had blotches of purple from the mugging she had gotten the other night. Her hazel green eyes looked around, watching for people. She hated getting off work at night.
It had been two years since she and her family had been freed from slavery. Since then, her father had died of cancer, several of her siblings married and left the country, and others had died as well. Lilly felt alone very often. Along with that, she didn't understand the society she lived in very well.
She sat down at her bus stop and waited. She couldn't walk all the way home that night. It was too cold and too dangerous with groceries. Her full lips quivered in an oddly chilling summer breeze. Her head look down, and one hand came up to wipe away a tear. I hate my new life. I hate my old one too...Will I ever be happy? she thought to herself, trying to remind herself freedom was a blessing. It was hard when only a few people were trying to help her adjust to her new and confusing way of life. She had no friends, but many good people to speak to.

Lade muttered to himself, keeping to the shadows. He'd just had to punch some young teenager out because he kept following him. Then of course, he had had to have a drink. The boy smelled so good. He'd sure have a hangover tommorow. Maybe that'll teach him to stop following strangers around.
Coming to the bus stop, he stopped short. A woman sat there. This night was not going well. What was a woman doing up in this part of the town at this time of night? Sighing, he walked toward her, tapping her on the shoulder. When she turned, he said, "You do know the last bus went about fifteen minutes ago right?"

Lilly tensed when someone tapped her shoulder. She turned, and mentally prepared herself to run. It was a male. In her experience, men weren't the nicest folk. Not to mention the angry aura radiating from him. She looked down sadly. "oh...It did? I see..." she mumbled and stood, bowing slightly. "Thank you for informing me."
She turned and headed down the dark street, very nervous. She kept telling herself she could get home, she would get home, she can make it and no one would hurt her. It'll be okay...The bus is just not coming by for another hour or so...That's all...Just keep walking...Look confident... she thought, gulping once she reached the end of the street. She looked around to see if anyone was around before continuing.

Lade's eyebrows came together as he watched the lady bow to him, then continue down the street. With her attitude, she'd be mugged in a second. Sighing angrily, he ran to catch up with her. "How far are you from home?" He asked, sticking his hands in his pockets and following her. "I can drive you, my house is only a few blocks the other way." He nodded in the direction of the bus stop. "It's really not safe around here at this time of night."

Lilly tensed again at the sound of feet coming up behind her and the man's voice. She stopped and turned to him. "I'm not that far...I can walk. It's fine. I'll be okay." she told him, part of it being a lie. Her pathetic home was about 4 miles away from the bus stop. She didn't trust him though. He could easily hurt her. She knew this. "I'm fine...Just please go about your own business, sir." she asked, beginning to back away from him.

"Ok..." He said, moving away from her. This woman was strange. Turning around, he walked back in the other direction. Lade guess she had a reason to be afraid of him, but by the bruises on her face, she'd definently been mugged before. Going with him was a better option then being raped and robbed by some old street guy. But he wasn't going to force her. Tons of people died everyday because of stupid choices. She would just be one more.

Lilly quickly walked home after the third noise and chain of yelling she heard. Not long after that, she ran home. She truly did hate her job and life at night. She made it to her apartment. It was a very cheap one; the kind where prostitutes thrive and their pimp is the landlord who spends their hard earned money on cocaine. She got in her room and set down her groceries. Her apartment was very empty. She had only a few pictures of her family, enough clothes to fit one small suitcase, and enough cooking stuff to fill a cooking stand. SHe made herself dinner and looked at the time. Almost midnight. Sighigng, she showered after eating, dressed for bed, and went to sleep.
.The Next Night.
Lilly ran, yelling, ''Wait!'' to a bus that wasn't going to. It was almost 11 at night. It was later than she had gotten out yesterday, which made her unhappy. She stopped at the bus stop and watched the passengers in the back laugh at her for missing the bus. One pointed at her Janitor outfit. That was her job. She worked as a janitor for a well known company that didn't let her off work until late at night.
Sighing, she sat down on the curb and let out a few frustrated tears. She'd have to walk home again. Again.... she thought, a shiver of dread running down her spine.

Lade was once agian walking by the bus stop. His business was taking him by here alot lately. The lady was there once agian. "Miss the bus agian? Have fun getting home." He didn't even offer his help, for the rejection yesterday had stung enough. Today, he was in a better mood, a smile on his lips. His day had been much better, and he hadn't had to knock anyone out.

Lilly watched him pass by her. She looked down the street she had to go down to get home, and sighed. Gulping, she stood and made sure her wallet and what little money she had was hidden. She stood and slowly walked down the street again. She didn't get home though. 3 blocks away from the bus stop someone spotted her and mugged her, knocking her out in the alleyway and taking her money and shoes.

Lade walked out of his office whistling. He was passing an alley when he thought he saw a human like shape on the ground. "Not agian.. I told them not to leave them in plain sight." Sighing, he went to pick up what he thought was a dead body. "Shit." He said when he saw what it was. The lady with the bruised face was on the ground, and breathing at that. He almost walked away when he noticed that she had no shoes on. Cursing agian, he went back over to her and lifted her up, walking with her in his arms to his apartment.
((have her wake up in his apartment please. I don't want to type all that boringness stuff))

Lilly began to stir. Her head really hurt. Groaning, she sat up and looked around, thinking she was in an alley. She went still when she saw she was in someone else's apartment. Calm down. Calm down. It might be a co-worker. It hopefully is one...And they were in my area? I'm screwed! she thought, taking in a deep breath to calm down.

Lade heard her move around, then her breathing increased. Walking in the room, he could tell she was panicked from all the way across the room. "Hey. Don't worry. I just brought you here because I found you in an alley..." He walked across the room, setting a bottle of pills in front of her. "Tylonal?" He sat down on the couch next to here. "I'll take you home whenever you want, I just didn't want to leave you in the alley with no money, no shoes, and unconcious."

Lilly moved a little bit away from him as he came closer. She watched every movement, then hesitantly reached for the pills. She took one and listened to him talk. She looked guilty a few moments later. "I'm sorry." she mumbled. "I caused you trouble." Lilly kept her eyes on the ground.

"No trouble. I didn't have anything else to do." He leaned back on the couch, propping his arms behind his head. "You work as a janitor? A young woman like you? Didn't you go to school or anything?" He looked her up and down. She was a pretty little thing, maybe his 'human' age or a little younger. No reason to be working as a janitor. She didn't even look like she was on any drugs.
