"You like me, don't you?" he asked, turning to her at a stoplight, eyes wide. "Or am I wrong?"

Blushing a deep shade of red, Serenity sunk as deep down into her chair as she could. "Oh god..." she said, realizing he'd finally figured it all out. 'Did I ruin it all, did I just wreck whatever it was we had between us', she thought to herself cursing. "I'm sorry-I-" she stuttered, not knowing what to say.

Jason cupped her cheek and sighed. "No, don't worry about it..." he said, looking into her eyes. "Why didn't you bring it up?" he asked, pulling away from her.

"Jason, its you...." she said, sitting up a little in her seat. "You don't have girlfriends, or tell me about people your interested in. You've never shown any signs of wanting more than just a friendship with me. Why would I wreck that by telling you?" she asked, still in disbelief she was finally comming clean. "I mean, I can barely stand talking to you about it now." she asked, still embarrassed.

"Well I didn't know you liked me that way- based on how we ended things before I came back..." he mumbled. "And most girls can't stand me once they are with me...And I guess I don't trust people, in fact, you're the most I've ever trusted someone outside my family." Jason stared at his hands. "I'm sorry..."

"Don't apologize." she said to him reasurringl. "Its not your fault how you feel or don't feel. We can only do the best with what comes naturally to us." she said, trying to be casual about her feelings for him.

"Which is why naturally I'm taking you out to dinner whenever you're off again," he said and started off on the road again.

Turning a deep shade of red, Serenity slowly turned to face Jason. "You don't need to take me out on a pitty dinner." she mumbled, thinking that would be the only things worse than rejection.

"It's not out of pitty," he informed her. "But if you don't want to, we won't."

"Uh-" she said, frozen in place. What the hell was he saying? "Sure." she asked, confused by his motives but knowing this was what she had secretly wanted. "Are you sure you want to do this?" she asked, confused by his sudden enlightenment on the situation.

"Yes," he answered. He wanted to. Of course he wanted to. He was someone he admired, but hadn't realized her emotions of him because at first he'd only been her teacher and friend.

Doubting the truth in his answer, she stayed silent as he drove her home. Eventually, she reluctantly asked, "So, when was the last time you actually took someone out for dinner that wasn't related to you?"

"I've never really done it," he answered. "I died as a slave, and slaves didn't really date. After that I was mostly a work aholic with a few...minor encounters," he admitted, blushing.

"Minor encounters?" she asked, confused. "What exactly do you mean?" she asked, jealousy flaring up within her. She chided herself for feeling that way, telling herself they hadn't even actually gone out on a real date.

"Meaning I may be a dead man, but dead men have needs too," he said, and left it at that. It was all one night stands and such.
