Lilly shrugged. "I enjoy cooking," she answered, looking around the restaurant silently. "I enjoy cleaning. I enjoy sleeping. I enjoy..." Her face puckered up in unsurity for a moment. "I suppose that's all I enjoy for now. I want to get a puppy sometime soon. What do you enjoy?"

Disturbed by her concept of fun, he cleared his throat before responding, "Well, let see......I enjoy reading, playing my piano, and painting. Why do you want a pupppy?" he asked, confused by wh she would want something that would just make more mess for her to clean up.

Lilly nodded at what he enjoyed. "I want a puppy because it'd make me happier. I'd have someone who would greet me when I came home, when I woke up in the morning, and when I went to sleep it'd curl up with me and protect me." Her eyes grew half-lidded in thought. "I only need one-hundred more dollars before I can get this one this man said he'd keep for me until I had the money...She's an...Au-str-al-ian shepard. Her name'll be Nora, named after my older sister."

"You have relatives?" he asked, interest in his voice. "You know, you could always try and find a companion instead of a puppy, they'd be able to do everything you described and provide you with an interesting conversation." Digging into his pocket, he pulled out 5 $20's and handed them to her. "Here, for your puppy." he said, not wanting the woman to have to endure another night alone.

Lilly blinked. "A companion is a puppy...Oh! You meant people," she blushed slightly at her mix-up. She shrugged. "I'm not worried about conversation," she mumbled glumly to herself, thinking of how she didn't understand a lot, and conversatin with others was often difficult because she didn't understand. She was in an education system now that was educating her so she could understand, and she hated that stupid school. She stared at the money before pushing it back. "It's fine. I can earn money now."

"You know its rude to reject a gift." he said, pushing the money back towards her. Soon after, the waitress came back, turning to each of them and saying, "So, what would you like to order?" "Ill have the chicken alfredo." Leon replied, looking at lily to see what she wanted.

"I'll have the chicken alfedo too," she answered and waited until the waitress left to push the money back to him. "Nothing special is happening that asks for gifts. We are just getting to know each other."

"Well, I like puppy's, and I'd hate if the one you want was bought by someone else. Take the money- do it for Nora." he said, flashing her a persuasive smile. "

"the man said he'd hold it until I could pay, and Nora wouldn't want me to take the money," she said, but then saw his smile and reluctantly gave in. She'd find some other way to get the money to him if he was going to be stubborn like that.

"Thank you." he said, glad she had not continued arguing with him. "So where do you live?" he asked, wondering what kind a place someone one a janitor's salary could afford.

She told him the name of the cheap apartment that was about a mile from the building she worked in. Lilly shrugged. "It has a bed, and bathroom, and kitchen, so I have nothing to complain about." She'd often heard bad comments about hte place at work, and sometimes people assumed things that were untrue of her because of it. She lived in an apartment notorious for hookers, pimps, and drugs. It had gotten cleaned up awhile ago, but the reputation still stood.

Nodding, he wondered to himself how she could be happy living like she did- all alone with no mat, no job, and nothing to show for all her hard work. Then again, its not like he was much better of. "What would you want if I told you that you could hace one thing-anything?" he asked, wondering if she even considered things like that.

Lilly tilted her head to the side. "A puppy," she answered. No, she did not think of things like that. SHe was grateful for what she had now, and to the men and women who spared her from being doomed to the fate of slavery as her parents had lived and died in. She smiled at him. "What about you?"

"Probably just someone to share it with." he said, looking away for a second before returning his gaze to her. "So do you have any family?" he asked, for once actually being interested in a conversation most would consider small talk.

"I have my elder brother Jason, sister Nora, brother Andrew, then younger brother James, and sister Emily," she answered. "Jason is in town with Andrew and James, and Nora lives with a doctor...Emily's a gold-digger."
