He swallowed, the truth in her words phsyically manifesting itself as pain in his chest. "Alexis...what do you mean by bad days?" he asked, seething and unfettered hatred pulsing through hie veins for both her parents and the slayers that had done all those unspeakable things to her. He hated the fact that he hadn't been there to protect her, physically or psyciologically- just like his sister. Flashbacks of the night he'd found her hanging from her window, a nuse tied around her neck, invaded his mind. His father had raped her and beaten on his mother. He'd done the best he could to protect them, but he couldn't help it when he had to leave for school, or when he wasn't strong enough and his father overpowered him. He always felt guilty when he'd leave to go so Aelxis, that was normally when he suspected the rapes would happen. Three months after Alexis had dissapeared his 11 year old sister had tied a rope around her neck made of sheets and hurled herself out of her window. When he'd found her a few hours later, she'd already been dead. After that, his mother had lost whatever marbles she had left and killed his father with a butcher knife. The cops had hauled her off to jail, claiming she was a murderer and locking her up behind bars for life. Trent fought to keep his thoughts in the present, wondering when exactly he should tell Alexis about his sister. He was sure the two had been friends growing up, with how often he'd brought her around the house and all. He'd always made sure to invite Alexis over when father was away fucking one of his whores or out getting drunk at some random bar. Needing to calm his nerves, he reached into his pocket and popped a few pills into his mouth. He'd gotten addicted to the damn things a few years back when he'd been perscribed the vikodin after getting shot in the arm, but he figured pain pills weren't all that considering some of the shit he could be doing.
"You would allow me to meet your mother?" Aaroe asked, an awed expression crossing his face. He felt honored more than anything else that she would introduce him to her mother, and at the same time sorrow that they had to meet for the first time in a hospital. "Yes, I would love to meet your mother." He finally said, a huge smile spreading across his lips. "Here, I'll be right back, I'm going to get you some food, and I'll buy some flowers we can bring your mother." he said, smiling gently as he got up and left. He alerted the nurses that she was awake, and headed for the nearest fast food joint. After he'd boughten her some Arby's, he stopped at a street vender to buy 2 boquets of flowers, one for Corrine and one for Corrine's mom, before heading back to the hospital. *Yes, thats right, give her flowers. Charm her and then take her home where we can cut the bithces fuckin-* "Damn it" Aaroe cursed to himself. The demon was back. And without his heroine , it would only get worse. He hated having to call friends for this type of thing, but he had no other choice. Whipping out his phone, he dialed Trent's number, hoping he would pick up. "Hey, Trent, you think you could hook me up with some heroine. I'm running a little low here and things have gotten a bit too complicated with my other dealer."
Scyther cursed to himelf, knowing he had scared the girl. Knocking on the bathroom door, he spoke to her from the other side, "Look, I'm sorry. It was just a joke......I didn't mean anything by it." He was used to having to apologize for himself, or children for that matter. He'd totally disregarded the fact that she was only thirteen, and now he'd scared the girl have to death. As if seeing ghosts wasn't enough to send the poor girl running scared.

"I don't want to talk about it," she mumbled, shame-faced. "What kind of pills are you talking?" she asked, watching. She too took pills- but they were psychoactive drugs for things like depression and such.
Corinne nodded. "Yeah," she said softly, smiling sadly also. She watched him stand to go and get her some food and her mother some flowers. She looked around the room until a nurse and doctor and officer came in to ask her a few questions. The nurses helped sit her up, and the doctor said she could leave once they were sure she was absolutely okay- so when the drugs fully wore off. She told the officers what she could remember, and then they left to go do some searching.
Harley stayed inside. "It's not funny to joke about rape!" she snapped at him, glaring through the door. Flit had told her, 'strip poker is poker where you remove your clothes and the winner rapes the loser or losers.' She didn't care about the naked part, it was the latter information that sent her into the bathroom.

"Just some over the counter stuff.." he said, quickly shoving them into his pocket. "Hey, Ally, c'mon. You can trust me. I'm not gonna judge you for it or anything." he promised her, just as his phone went off. Knowing if this was gang-related and he didn't take the call it could piss them off more than he had by making them wait last night, Trent quickly whipped out the phone. "Hey Aaroe......yeah sure....just drop by later tonight." He kept the phone call short, not wanting to drop the conversation between him an Alexis. "Ally, whats been going on with you, and I want the truth." he said, sensing she was still hiding stuff from him.
Once Aaroe ended the phone call, he pushed open the door to Corrine's hospital room, smiling as handed her some Arby's and a boquet of red roses. *Yes, red, the color of her blood.* Shaking the thought off, Aaroe placed the food in front of her with shaking hands, the hands of a heroine addict that needed his fix. He was sweating profusely from the strains of the first signs of withdrawal, and he hoped to god she didn't notice. "Here, flowers and food." he said, sitting down beside the hospital bed.
"Whoa, wait a minute. Who said anything about rape. Jesus Christ, I would never do that." Scyther said, totally confused at this point. "I won't even pay for sex, let alone take it from someone who's not consenting." he said, being totally honest.

Alexis shifted uncomfortably. "I'll tell you later, okay," she said, looking at the empty plate before standing and throwing it out and putting the tray over the trash can. She returned to her seat and leaned back, hoping he'd let her slide...for now.
Corinne was surprised he had gotten her flowers too. "Wow, thank you," she said and sniffed, grinning absently afterwards and then going to eat her food. "Thank you again." She finished just as a tall man with soft white skin and smoothed back black hair walked in. His eyes- a knowledgeable gray- went to her form. Corinne smiled more. "Hey, Quinn!" she greeted happily. Quinn- her teacher- glanced to Aaroe with only mild interest. He was one of the few elves that didn't find those with "physical deformities," as his race called it, different. He looked back to Corinne. "How'd you know though? I heard they're keeping this story away from the news..." she was saying. "News travels faster in the underworld than it does here, remember?" He teased and stood by her bed, checking her temperature and for injuries. "You don't look too battered..." He commented, eyes filling with relief. Quinn was in love with Corinne- had been for a long time- and she didn't realize it. "I'm not," she assured him and looked to Aaroe. "Aaroe, this is my teacher, Quinn." She was smiling still. Quinn looked at Aaroe, once again with only mild curiosity. Corinne's life was her own, and she could date who she wanted, but he was definitely not fond of the lucky bastard who got her.
"Flit said that's what strip poker means," she said and peaked through the door. "What does strip poker mean?"

Trent was silent, a mixture of frustration that she wouldn't tell him and hurt that she didn't trust him enough to showing on his face. He knew, though, that she was stressed enough without him making things worse. "I guess we should probably head over to the hospital now to see your friend." Trent said quietly, thinking he might as well just give Aaroe his heroine then. It would save them both a trip.
Aaroe was stiff as a board as he extended his hand towards Quinn, not at all fond of the look the teacher got in his eyes when he looked at Corinne. "Nice to meet you. Corrine has told me only good things about you." Aaroe commented, his tone carefully masking his emotions. *Yes, well, lets give her something to complain about, why don't we. A few scars on that pretty little face of his and-* Aaroe blocked out the voice, knowing now was definately not the time to loose his cool.
"Your little ghost as a lying bastard. You can tell him I said that too." Scyther said, glancing around the room as if tring to catch sight of the guy. "Strip poker is....well, its a game people play were, instead of gambling with cheereos or money or whatever, they have to take off an item of clothing each time they raise the stakes." he explained, hoping it didn't sound as bad to her as it did comming out of his own mouth.

"I could tell you in the car," she offered as she stood, knowing too well what he thought of her wanting to tell him later. She just wasn't comfortable admitting weakness in public's eye. She'd rather be in private when she did that.
Quinn shook. "That's good to hear, considering how strict a teacher I normally am." Corinne made a noise of disbelief- but then again, she was very scholarly and loved strict teachers and homework. He smiled at her. "I've brought your missed work for you."
"So just the last part he said was made up, cause he said that, but then he said the other thing," she opened the door. Harley came out and nodded up at him. "Cheereos then?"

"Tell me whenever your ready..." he said as he led the way out to the car and drove off towards the hospital. He didn't want to force her into divulging something she wasn't comfortable with or make her feel pressured- that was worse than if she didn't tell him anything. "So this girl, Corrine, she means alot to you?" he asked, deciding maybe it would be best to change the subject.
God, the way that teacher looked at Corrine made him sick and angry all at one. He wanted to pummel the guy, to knock him out cold right here in this hospital room- and not because of the demon. Clearing his throat, Aaroe was quite as he watched the interaction between the two like a hawk, willing to bet money that Corinne had no idea exactly how deep Quinn's feelings were for her.
"Sounds good to me." he said, smiling and letting out a sigh of relief as he led the way back to the dinning room table and began diveying up the cheeroes between the two of them. "So, does this mean Flit still wants to play too, or what?" he asked.

She buckled up and was about to tell him what a bad day was, but he changed the subject, much to her relief. "Yes, she does. She's my friend's daughter..." she drifted off. "My friend is in a coma. Her will states after a year an a half has passed, she wants to be unplugged. That's in less than two weeks."
Quinn finished up and left the room, and went down the hall to visit her mother, something he and a few of her classmates did often. "Isn't he cool?" she asked Aaroe, the drugs starting to fully where off.
"No, He can't play," she said matter-of-factly and put Flit's cards away. After what had happened, she was punishing her guardian- it wasn't right to lie to someone about things like that.

"I...I'm really sorry Ally." Trent said, moving his hand over to hers again. He had no idea how to help her cope with all that she'd been through- he'd barely been able to console her when her father had beat one her. Death....death wasn't something he knew how to ward off or make better.
Aaroe was quiet for a minute, not expecting that response from her. "Yes....he's 'cool'..." Aaroe said, repeating what she had said. "Ummm, Corinne, you are aware that your teacher is in love with you, right?" Aaroe asked, his eyes focused on hers.
"Okey-dokey." Scyther said, not sure if Flit wasn't playing because he disliked Scyther that much, or because Harley didn't want him to play. "So, where can I get one of these ghost gaurdians?" Scyther asked, a small smile on his face.

Alexis glanced at him with a softened expression. "It's all right, you don't have to be sorry...I feel sorry for the poor kid..." She sighed. "Her life's been pretty rough too." Alexis sighed sadly in thought of the things Corinne had gone through that she'd shared with Alexis.
Corinne stared at him, looking amused. "What?" she asked, smiling more. "Are you sure? I mean, he's really fond of all of his students..." She didn't believe him, and then another look crossed her face. "Why were you at the dealer's place?" she asked.
"You have to be born with the gift of the dead," she answered and played a card. "Or you can die as an innocent."

" You know, you make a good mom." he said, shaking his head. "Always thinking about her safety but never about your own...good mom, stupid person." he joked, smiling slightly.
Aaroe broke into a dead sweat, her question totally unexpected. "It's the first place I thought to look- you hear about pretty girls getting kidnapped and sold in this part of town all the time." he explained, his voice as steady and level as he could manage with the heroine withdrawal he was suffering from.
"And which was it for you?" he asked, his voice getting slightly serious. This girl both confused him, intrigued him, and gave him the creeps. "What are you anyways?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Your not human, right?" he asked.

"I'm an awful caretaker," she mumbled. "I can't cook, can hardly clean, and I'm not exactly...emotionally supportive...I mean, she stresses over homework and I always say something that isn't supportive or soothing..." She sighed. Alexis was filled with guilt for how she wasn't exactly a good caretaker.
She pursed her lips in a thin line, but didn't challenge it. She wasn't awake enough to have understood the conversation that took place at the dealer. She did wonder why he came alone, without someone in case he got into trouble. "You want to go meet my mom now?" she asked, starting to stand. She was feeling okay enough to stand.
"Gift of the dead," she answered and played another card. Her purple eyes flickered to someone behind him. "Who died in your life?"

"Your being too hard on yourself." Trent said, shaking his head. "She's not even your child, Ally. Your only 24 for gods sake, you shouldn't have to be a mother yet....besides, being a good caretaker isn't about being good at cooking or cleaning or all that other shit- its about showing them love, and that's exactly what your doing. You worrying about her, doing your best to help her with homework and all the stuff our parents didn't give a fuck about Ally." he said, knowing she was a better parent than even most middle aged women were. "Your being an amazing parent to this kid, and she's lucky to have you." he said, thinking it was odd Ally was a parent now.
"Yeah.." he said, moving to her side to help her stand just in case her strength gave out. "You sure your ready to be up and around yet? I could get you a wheelchair if you still feel a little weal." he offered.
*Aww fuck, not that question again* he thought to himself, cursing under his breath. "No one.." he lied, looking away from her. "Why does it matter anyways? I mean, whats with you asking me that question?" he asked, slightly annoyed.

Alexis let his words sink in for a few moments, lost in thought for awhile. "Hey...How is your sister?" she asked suddenly, recalling the little girl she'd see whenever she'd go over. "How old is she now?"
"I'm fine," she assured him but used the wall to hold herself up every so often. Quinn was just leaving as they reached her mother's room. She led the way inside to where a woman who resembled Corinne rested. She was older though, with lots of smile lines and laugh lines on her face, and a pasty pallor from being asleep for so long. Corinne sat down and stroked her mother's hair back and started to talk. "Mom, this is Aaroe. He's a new friend of mine," she introduced them. "Aaroe, this is my mom...Her name's Cathy, but she prefers being called mom."
"Nevermind," she said and played another card. She reached into the box and ate a few cheerios. The house phone rang and she stood to check who was calling, and then answered. It was a friend of hers. Her friend had been over when Alexis had saved Harley, and so this friend had Harley's new information. This girl also saw dead things.

"Still eleven." Trent replied, his jaw tightening at the mention of his sister. He never talked about her- ever; not to his friends, not to the psycologists he'd been sent to see during his time in juvy, not even to himself, when he was alone in the middle of the night and all he could see was the sight of his sister hanging from her window all those years ago. "Ally....she's dead....she killed herself a few months after you left..." he said, his breath burning in his throat.
"It''s a pleasure to meet you, Cathy." Aaroe said, smiling at the sleeping woman and presenting her with the boquet of flowers. "You've done a wonderful job raising your daughter. She's a perfect lady." he said, his eyes drifting from Cathy back to Corinne.
Scyther was quiet as he watched Harley ralk on the phone, wondering who she was talking to. "Who is it?" Scyther asked, wondering if it was her boyfriend or something.
