Corinne held her umbrella over her head as she parted ways with work. It was around midnight, and it was the weekend. She trudged to the bus stop silently, listening to the heavy rain hit the pavement. She sighed softly and rubbed her tired eyes with her free hand, and then looked up. She was almost there, and then a simple ten minute wait for her familiar bus.
She took a seat on one of the wet benches, and waited silently for her bus to arrive.

Solin peered up from his writing table, a frown on his pale handsome face. His dark, soulful eyes seemed were enough to make any man weep and his etheral beauty only added to the effect. Reaching a pale hand across the table he let it rest on the baige enevolope that had appeared on his desk.
For a long moment he simply sat there stareing at it, as if he were willing it to dissapear. When it seems dead on remaining he sighed, the sound both beautiful and depressing, and opened the enevlope to pull out a letter. Unfolding it he stared down at the two words on the parchment paper.
Written in blood red ink that he sometimes wondered if it was ink at all, was 'Corinne *****'.
Instantly knowledge filled his head. Knowledge of where to find the girl and what she looked like. Sunkissed locks came to mind, seeming so soft and glossy, then wide black rimmed glasses that made him frown slightly before he saw the warmest brown eyes he had ever looked upon.
Pushing the image aside he dropped the letter back on his desk, where it proceeded to burst into flames and leave nothing but ash, which then was carried on a sudden wind to dissapear.
Pulling on his long black wool coat he stood and stared up at the wall across from him. After a moment a black void seemed to appear, and through it he could faintly see a cemetary. After slight hesitation Solin forced his feet to carry him to and through the portal until he stepped out into the crisp night air of Earth.
From the weather he would guess it was somewhere around late October, maybe early November. The moon was high up in the sky and was fat, though not yet at it's fullest.
Glancing around at the familiar spot the void always brought him to upon arrival he began his walk amongst the graves. He knew that soon the urge to seek out his victim would overcome him and he would not be able to keep away from her, but before that urge came he would walk amongst the graves as long as he could.
Far too early he felt the pull of his victim, and was unable to stop his feet from carrying him forward from the graveyard, and from the shelter of the trees until he stepped out into the townlight. He walked a short distance until he came to a bus stop, where there was a lone figure sitting on a bench.
He couldn't see her face seeing as he was behind her, but Solin knew that it was Corinne. He clenched his hands into tight fist, hating what he was going to have to do next.
This one moment would change her life forever; as well as his. Every victim left him filled with more and more despair for what he had done. It was a curse that he could not escape from and Solin feared that one day it would consume him whole.
For centuries Solin had been trying to find an out, and had come up with nothing. He hated it, hated seeing they're eyes widen in suprise, before turning a dull and lifeless color as the sorrow filled them.
Solin just hoped that this one was strong. The weak one's didn't last seconds after his touch. He had once watch one man bash his head into a brick wall over and over again until his body fell limp against the pavement.
Unable to hesitate any longer Solin pulled his hand from his coat pocket, and approached the bench silently. He searched for any glimpse of bare skin, seeing a small parting of her hair, and reached out towards her.
His breathe held in his throat, and he wanted to clench his eyes but forced them to stay open.
Then he touched her.....and nothing happened. He didn't feel the transfer of his powers...which was impossibe. Frowning he forgot about trying to remain aloof and grasped her neck, wrapping his fingers around it's width.
Still...nothing...

Corinne bolted when she felt pressure on her neck. Without thinking- or looking even- she started to swat at the man behind her as hard as she could, smacking him across the face with her umbrella. After calming down- about three hits later- she looked at him. "So...Sorry but do not touch me. I don't have change, and I'm not helping you get on the bus," she snapped, not realizing the person wasn't a bum or an assaulter. She was flushed from the surprise and fear, her cheeks red. The rain dampened her hair, and her hair in turn clung to her cheeks eagerly.

Solin cried out in surprise as her umbrella clashed against his face countless times. Backing out of range he flexed his now aching jaw and looked up at the crazy woman before him.
She was breathing heavily, her warm brown eyes wide in weariness and suprise and Solin heard himself think, much to his surprise, how attractive she looked with her hair clinging to her face in that tousled way. He watched as if spellbound as a droplet of water rolled down her face and across her lips, the uncontrollable urge to capture it with his own lips almost taking control.
Backing away a few more steps he shook his head slightly as if trying to jog the thoughts from his brain before questioning why nothing had happened when he had touched her.
"I..I'm sorry.." He muttered awkwardly at her words, then cocked his head. "Do you....how do you feel." He imagined that she must think him very odd, asking such a question out of the blue, and especially when they didn't know one another. But he had to know. He had to know how this was possible.
Usually by now whoever he had touched would be so withdrawn in themselves, so carried away with despair that they would find it hard to even breath, let alone attack someone with an umbrella.

Corinne's eyes narrowed even more. "I feel afraid and cold! How did you think I'd feel?" she snapped. A familiar groan echoed down the street. Her bus drove by, it's destination sign flashing an Out of Order. Corinne grumbled and pulled her umbrella over her head, starting down the street. That was the last bust until dawn- she'd have to walk home.

Solin stared in amazement at her, watching as she turned and began to walk down the street after her bus had drove by. For a moment he considered just leaving her. Just because she hadn't felt his power didn't mean his job wasn't done. He HAD touched her after all. Then the very fact that she hadn't felt his power made him far too curious to simply walk away.
Finding himself trailing after her he pushed his wet hair from his eyes and pulled his coat tighter around his body. It was a shame that the Higher Powers couldn't find a way to make him imposable to sensation of being cold, but of course they refused to do anything that would somehow bring him the slightest hint of happiness.
"You..don't feel overcome with grief?" He called behind her, keeping a good ten feet between them. He didn't really want to frighten her too much, at least not until he understood what was going on.

Corinne scowled when she realized he was following her. She picked up her pace a bit, hardly hearing his question. "Why should I?" she asked, turning a corner quickly. "It was just a bus!" A gust of wind flung the umbrella out of her hands and into the street. The rain pelted her and made her shiver a lot. From the corner of her eyes she saw a taxi, and managed to flag it down. She waited for the man though- if the weather really was going to pick up, she couldn't just leave him now. She sighed and shivered against the seat, motioning for him to get into the taxi.

Solin raised his brows in suprise as she motioned for him to get in the taxi along with her. He hesitated a moment, wondering if it was really wise then shrugged nonchaulantly. What's the worse that could happen?
Climbing in he felt his breath halter at the closeness of they're bodies in the small car. It had been so long since he had been so close to a woman, and it made his nerves stand on edge in both weariness and something that Solin was forced to realize was physical attraction. She was quite attractive after all, and even though his very existence was foul didn't mean he didn't have the typical male urges.
Now that he was in the taxi, Solin found that he was at a loss of words so he simply stared ahead in silence.

She gave the driver her address and looked at him. "Well, where do you live?" she asked, looking tired and cold. Her hair was still sticking to her face, and the cold had forced her body to respond...She looked out the window as they passed her umbrella. I needed a new one anyways. she thought.

Solin blurted out the first street name that came to him, hoping that it made sense and leaned back, staring over at her. She was trembling softly from the cold, and some instinct buried deep in him wanted to reach out and embrace her until the chill was whipped from her body. Instead he clenched his fist to his side and forced his gaze ahead.
"Sorry about scaring you back there..I was just..." He was just what? Trying to fill her with soul wrenching despair? Yeah...maybe it was just best to leave that sentence unfinished.
"So what's your name?"

She listened silently and frowned. "Corinne. You were just what? Trying to get my attention? Scare the crap out of me?" she glared at him. "Honestly, it's midnight. If you wanted innocent attention then just tap someones shoulder or something, or say Hello." Corinne was tired and still frazzled from being scared. "Your name?"

Solin turned to her, taking in her appearance. She really was beautiful, especially now that her hair was beginning to dry and it's vivid goldness was coming out. He wasn't sure why but he wanted to know her. Maybe it was simply because his powers had somehow not effected her.
"Solin. Nice to meet you."

She nodded and grew silent, watching the buildings pass in the cab. Finally, it stopped for her place. "Bye," she said and got out after paying for her ride. Corinne walked into her apartment complex and got up to her place.
She laid down on the bed after showering. It was almost one. She sighed and stared up at the ceiling, willing herself to sleep. It didn't work. She laid still until finally, shortly after two, she was asleep.

Solin watched her get out of the taxi with a frown. He felt the urge to say something but didn't know quite what so he simply sat there as the car door shut and they drove away. He glanced back at the buiilding that she had went into, remembering it's location before he materalized out of the back of the taxi and to the base that the Higher Ups had created for his kind whenever they were on the mortal realm.
On the outside it looked like a very large mansion snugged in between varioius stories and streets. The house was well furnished, the Higher Up's were a bit snobbish after all, they wouldn't pick a dump for his kind to stay at.
The base was rarely used though, which caused some cob webs and dust to litter it's surfaces. But he didn't mind that.
For a while he paced the floors, his mind racing in confusion. What the hell had happened exactly. It was impossible for someone not to feel his touch, yet Corinne had been uneffected by it.
Solin knew that he would have to try again, after all he was stuck on the mortal realm until his mission was complete. With a heavy sigh he walked to one of the bedrooms and layed on the bed.
He'd just have to do something tomorrow...

Corinne was out early- 7 Am- the next morning. She wore skinny jeans and a band shirt as she walked around town. It was still gloomy, so she'd grabbed her favorite green hoodie and pulled it on to keep her dry. First she had a dentist appointment, but then she had to go to the grocery store.
She was out of the dentists by eight and headed on down to the local market. She headed in and looked around silently before pulling out her list to get what she needed. She slowly began her hunt for her necessities.
