"Welcome to my world." I said, laughing. "Come on. There's a rope swing right behind you." I said, doing the back stroke.

"Rope... swing?" I asked, confused. "What is ...rope swing?"

"You must be kidding." I said, riding the water over to him like a wave. "Here. You grab the rope, then you..." I said, pushing off and going into the water head first dive style.

"Ok, I don't know if I can do anything fancy like that, but here goes nothing..." I grabbed the rope and swung, but chickened out and slammed against the tree. "Oww..." I fell and rolled into the water. "I'm gonna practice my swimming!" I said. I did an easy breaststroke and soon found myself far upriver from where I began. "Hey Flo," I called back. "I think I'm getting the hang of this! I wanna race!"

"Hey. You ok?" I asked. Swimming over to him. "I don't think so." I said, having the water push me as I layed casually on it.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied. "Why not? I'm in good enough shape to race! Just so long as you don't cheat with the water, I may just win!" I nudged her shoulder lightly with my fist.

"Fine." I said. "What stroke?" I asked, seeing if he actually stalked me enough to know my best stroke.

"There are... different strokes?" I shook my head at my own naivete. "Never mind. Let's just do a free for all. I seem to be good at that one you just showed me, and I'm feeling confidant, so you do your worst- or best, as it may be." I grinned at my stupid twist on the old phrase.

"Ready, set, go." I said, taking off before he could respond. I swam medium speed, flipping onto my back to see where he was.

Why, she took off without me! I thought, more than a little irked. Fine, if thats how she's gonna play... I gave a hard kick forward and I was off like a light. I found if I coordinated my armstrokes with my kicking, I went a lot faster. Soon enough I passed Flo easily. Now I know she's not cheating, I thought. She went a lot faster at the meet. "I'm gonna win!" I called back, underwater, in a sing-song voice.

I stopped swimming all together and dove under into my own little bubble of water. 'I wonder how long it will take him notice I'm not swimming?' I thought to myself.

I kept swimming, focused on going as fast as I possibly could. It was perhaps an hour before I realized there was noone behind me. I stopped and looked around. "Flo? Flo?! Where are you?" I called out. I was far from her house, perhaps miles. I was totally lost. Shit.

I got above the water when I noticed Jule was miles and miles away. "Uh oh." I said. Then I went under the water and shot threw the water like a bullet. "Found you." I said, tapping him on the shoulder.

I jumped, then felt relieved. At least I'm not lost anymore, I thought. "Try to keep up next time!" I said to her, grinning from ear to ear.

"Jerk." I said, splashing him with a 5 foot wave.
